About me

My name is Germán Lado Insua and I was born a funny 28th of December 2008. I’m from Arteixo, a village near La Coruña (Galicia – Spain) where I lived all my life until I hooked up on travelling.

When I was 18, I started studying Superior Formation (FP) in Computer Systems Management at the same time I also started a degree in Computer Science at UNED. Once finished the FP I decided, with my teacher and friend Moncho, to start a small bussines to continue enriching my computer related skills while earning some money to afford my studies. Doing this I continued for 4 years, using any spare time to study languages at the Official School of Languages of La Coruña. There I finished fifth and last year of English and first of Japanese.

In 2007 I applied for an internship programme Odysseus 2008 to spend the summer, travel and continue my formation. This programme consisted in developing a research project in the field of HCI. This project, called Ambient Jewelry, helped me start in the research world. I lived 10 weeks in Ireland, in UCD (University College Dublin) Campus where I met a lot of really interesting people who I coll them friends. Meanwhile, under the guidance of Mike Bennet, I wrote my first paper. This paper was accepted in AIS 2008 in Seúl (Korea) as part of Ubicomp.

Before going to Ireland I applied to another grant, the 2008/09 Computer Science grants of ICEX. I passed 2 tests in Madrid. One about computer science and the other of English, scoring a fourth place in the final classification. After a personal interview they communicated me that I got the grant. My destination was the Spanish External Trade Office (part of the Spanish Embassy) in Tokyo. Exactly what I asked for among 74 other destinations.

The oddysey started and after a lot of comments from friends asking me for a blog to keep track of me, I decided to set up this blog.

This is how one of my wishes, a travel to Japan started.

As Frank Sinatra said, “The Best is yet to come”…
